Talisker is a distillery well known among enthusiasts, which are usually used to taste products aged in ex-Bourbon barrels, more in line with the marine and peat flavors of the island of Skye distillery. In 2002 the company put on sale a limited edition that matured in ex-Sherry casks, an advanced age for Talisker standards (20 years) and an important gradation, above 60° ABV. Today this bottle is very sought after, it is rare and prices often exceed 2000 euros.
peat and sherry at first. Very fine and elegant, you don't perceive the particularly high gradation. It is then the turn of red fruits, with cherry and blackberry.
spices, including nutmeg and black pepper, along with an important salinity. Then red fruits, with hints of cherry, blackberry, black cherry and strawberry. The Talisker character comes through.
very long and complex. Notes of black pepper, peat, spices and red fruits (cherry) are perceptible.
The almost perfect marriage between the various components and a great age, that never overpowers the whisky from the the proud Isle of Skye, give rise to an excellent result. Magnificent.
