Highland Park Cask Strength has been added to the distillery's core range in late 2020. The spirit has been aged predominantly in sherry-seasoned American oak casks, which are said to have been chosen specifically for this product by master whisky maker Gordon Motion.
Some unconventional notes here; at first there is for sure a minor alcoholic entrance, which is however morphed into a sweet, tangy and fatty raisin nuance. The overall result is pretty sweet, pleasant but slightly unbalanced., as the fresh, honeyed lemon-oriented with unripe reddish fruit component is far less intense. A very minor smoky note.
Blasting, very very intense, rapidly filling the mouth and the nose. Warm, tangy spices, rounded and sweet, with a very nice intense orange, between red and orange. Brown sugar. A touch of toffee, burnt caramel and even a final coffee nuance. Rich and complex.
Medium-long, truly intense yet balanced, between orange and sweet spices, with burnt caramel.
Highland Park Cask Strength is a surprisingly nice experience; the aromas are rich and varied, especially in the palatal phase, which has the advantage of structuring and deepening the sensations which are just suggested in the nose. The finish is almost never ending, still rich and balanced.
