Teerenpeli Palo is the 20th anniversary bottling which was released by the Finnish distillery in 2022, after maturation in Teerenpeli's sea container warehouses. The ABV is said to having been decided in a livestream blind tasting among Teerenpeli's ambassadors.
Herbal and marine smoke, with yellow (apple, lemon, unripe peach) and unripe red (cherry, plum) fruit, some caramel and vanilla. There is also a minor salty hint. Classical, yet well crafted.
Velvety and classic, fresh and juicy fruit (peaches and dried plums), over a iodine, yet slightly herbal smoke. With time it shows a buttery profile, butter biscuits with vanilla. Nice.
Short, maybe shorter than expected, yet clean and refined, again a soft smoke and some crisp mixed fruit.
Teerenpeli Palo is a very nice example of balance between crisp, fresh fruit and a soft smoke, which finds its nature between marine (just with a touch of salt) and herbal. The fruit is not completely sherried, expressing more mixed notes comparing to other releases fully matured in ex-sherry casks. Balanced and well-crafted, classical at times, yet very pleasant.
