TASTING NOTES - GLENALLACHIE 8YO

Nose

Very expressive and intense, despite the average ABV. There is for sure a hint of creamy oak and boasting, ripe banana, probably due to the virgin oak influence, which is sided by intense sherried flavors of raisins, cherries and strawberries, fresh yet juicy. A very mild acidity, maybe given by the wine casks. Overall, a symphony which reminds the 10yo cask strength.

Palate

Again, quite intense for this ABV. The experience is more pushed to the sherried notes, yet darker than expected, with some slightly bitter hints reminiscent of rhubarb, over dark cherries and again raisins. Some herbal, balsamic components. Less palatable than the nose, maybe more original and creative.

Finish

Medium duration, battling between sherried influence (mainly the chocolate-cherries-raisins combo of PX) and the darker herbal complexity.

Glenallachie 8yo is a very interesting product. It is evident the continuity from this core range bottling and the more intense, yet similar 10yo cask strength. The former is however enjoyable due to the dual soul, battling between PX chocolate-cherries-raisins and a darker herbal undertone, with some acidic tones of wine. The virgin oak can also be perceived with some creamy banana and vanilla. Once again, Walker provides a great journey in the art of wood aging.
