Made from malt distilled at the Mars Shinshu Distillery and the Mars Tsunuki Distillery, it has matured in the Yakushima Aging Cellar, which was newly established in June 2016 on the island of Yakushima, a World Natural Heritage site and the highest island in Kyushu, Miyanoura-dake.
Ripe pineapple, mango, passion fruit, vanilla orange, and some minor peat hints. The creamy texture brings loads of cake with tropical fruit and custard, with sweet and complex spices to the palate. Only later, a minor pinch of salt appears, bringing the stimulation of the tongue further. Warm and creamy finish, pretty long, excellent, reminiscent of refined custard with high quality tropical fruit on top.
96Among the whiskies tested in blind tastings and reviews throughout the year, those scoring the best get reselected. These products were then tried once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof). The test results are then compared, and the TOP 10 is made.
