Reservoir is a small craft distillery established in 2008 in Richmond, Virginia. From the get-go, they specialized in a core range of 100% single-cereal mash bills from locally grown organic rye, corn, and wheat. It’s aged for two years in small charred American white oak casks of only 5 gallons, less than a tenth of the customary 53-gallon barrels.
In the glass, it develops red fruit, caramel, vanilla, menthol and crème brûlée. Notes of oak are added to the palate. The finish is medium-long, slightly dry, with cocoa, leather, wood and a touch of spices.
93Among the whiskies tested during the year in blind tastings and reviews, those that scored the best got selected. These products were then tested once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof). The test results are then compared and the TOP 10 is made.
