It is crafted from 100% locally grown Virginia rye and has been aging in 5-gallon Gibb casks for nearly five years. As per the American Bottled in Bond Act, it is made by one distillery, during one season, proofed at 100 (50% ABV), and aged for at least four years in a bonded warehouse.
It exhibits scents of red fruits, oak, white pepper, a hint of vanilla, and milk chocolate with raisins. The palate is mellow and a little on the dry side. There are oak, rich balsamic notes, cardamon, chestnut honey, and star anise. The finish is medium long, with oak, spices, and balsamic notes. Complex and bosting a broad flavor profile.
92Among the whiskies tested in blind tastings and reviews throughout the year, those scoring the best get reselected. These products were then tried once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof). The test results are then compared, and the TOP 10 is made.
