#8 – BIG PEAT 33 YEARS OLD

COUNTRY: Scotland
ABV (PROOF): 47.2% (94.4)
PRICE: $ 300 | € 230
TYPE: blended malt whisky

For over a decade, Douglas Laing has been standing for powerful peated whisky and original experimentations. This year they amazed us with an exalted blend of Islay single malts with a minimum age of 33 years. Its complex structure works around refined nuances thanks to a combination of cognac and sherry cask finishing. Limited production of 1.500 bottles.

Winey with red fruit hints, enriched by a sweet component of mineral peat. Peat, grilled pineapple, noble wood, and a touch of olives on the palate. The finish is smoky, sapid and buttery.

HOW ARE THE AWARDS MADE

Among the whiskies tested during the year in blind tastings and reviews, those who scored the best were selected. These products were then tested once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof).  The test results are then compared, and the TOP 10 is made.

Since 2016 CigarsLover Magazine releases the top 10 whiskies of the year. This list will be published in detail in the Winter 2020 issue of CigarsLover Magazine.
