Founded in 1817, Bladnoch Distillery is one of the oldest Scotch whisky distilleries and the southernmost in Scotland, often referred to as the “Queen of the Lowlands.” The Wave Master Distiller’s Collection explores the process of marrying whiskies through what it describes as the five pillars of whisky making, led by master distiller Dr. Nick Savage.
This collection consists of a five-part series of linked annual releases. For each release, Savage fills five amontillado sherry tuns with whiskies sourced from various cask types. Each release will focus on a different pillar and is limited to 1,817 bottles, commemorating the year the distillery was established. Any remaining whisky will be transferred to the following year’s tun, borrowing from the solera method, culminating in the fifth and final release slated for 2028. This final release will include component whiskies that span the entire project.
The second annual release, Wave II: Distillery & Spirit, focuses on the distillery and spirit character. In this release, Savage marries a combination of whisky matured in re-charred butts and barrels with first-fill bourbon barrels, all within the second of the distillery’s five amontillado sherry tuns. Bottled at 57% ABV, this limited release, also consisting of only 1,817 bottles, has a suggested retail price of $144 and is available exclusively through the Bladnoch website.
