First launched in 2021, the limited release of the Untold Story of Kentucky series collaborates with the Kentucky Black Bourbon Guild to showcase the modern and historical contributions of African Americans to the spirits industry. The bottle’s label features the story of Dallas Peters, an African American distiller who was falsely accused of stealing barrels at the Old Taylor Distillery, now known as Castle & Key. His narrative highlights the brand’s ongoing commitment to promoting diversity and equity within the distilling industry. All proceeds from bottle sales will be donated to the scholarship fund established by the label.
This latest release is the first single-barrel in the series, bottled at cask strength with a 52% ABV (104 proof). Only 204 bottles are available, priced at a suggested retail price of $175 each. The bourbon can be purchased both online and in retail locations through Castle & Key. As a cask strength expression of the brand’s flagship small batch bourbon, it features heirloom Hickory King corn, sourced from local Walnut Grove Farms, making up 73% of the mash bill, along with 10% Kentucky-grown rye and 17% malted barley. This grain, which was widely cultivated a century ago, is believed to impart notes of dark fruits and chocolate.
