High West has released the latest batch of The Prisoner’s Share, a whiskey blend that has been finished in red wine barrels from The Prisoner Wine Co. This limited edition whiskey is bottled at 51% ABV (102 proof) and is available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $175.
The blend consists of bourbon and rye sourced from High West, MGP, Bardstown Bourbon Co., and an undisclosed distillery in Kentucky. The individual mash bills include MGP’s bourbon, which is made with 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley; Bardstown Bourbon Co.’s bourbon, which contains 60% corn and 40% rye; and bourbon from the undisclosed distillery, made with 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley. The rye components include MGP’s mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, as well as High West’s own rye, which is made from 80% rye and 20% malted rye.
The whiskeys in this blend were aged between 4 and 12 years, a significant increase compared to the previous release, which featured whiskey as young as 11 months. Although The Prisoner’s Share first debuted in 2022, this new release highlights High West’s continued exploration of cask finishes. Additionally, the distillery collaborated with Casa Noble late last year to create The Noble Share, a blend of straight ryes finished in Marques de Casa Noble añejo tequila barrels.
