Laphroaig The Archive Collection 38 year old Islay Single Malt Scotch

Laphroaig’s Archive Collection began with a 36-year-old expression in 2024, and now the second release, distilled in 1985, is even older. The 1980s were challenging times for Laphroaig on Islay, leading the distillery to reduce production and shorten the work week. During this period of decreased whisky production, the team focused on important repairs and renovations, including the construction of the current stillhouse.

Since this whisky was distilled, Laphroaig has seen the leadership of seven different distillery managers. The Laphroaig Archive 38-year-old whisky was initially matured in bourbon barrels, then further aged in a second-fill oloroso sherry hogshead, and finished in an oloroso sherry-seasoned European oak butt. This expression comes in a handblown bottle featuring a textured neck inspired by sea glass. It was first accessible to Friends of Laphroaig members through a ballot and is now being released more widely.

Bottled at 41.3% ABV, this whisky has a suggested retail price of $4,300. Only 400 bottles are available, which can be found in select locations such as Illinois, Massachusetts, New York City, California, Texas, Washington D.C., as well as through online retailers and directly at the distillery.
