Mother Mesccia, the traditional rum of Monaco, is reborn, thanks to Haiti’s exceptional sugar cane.
Dating back to the 1600s, Mesccia was born in Monaco when Caribbean rum was blended with European spirits like Vermouth and Marsala. This unique mixture became part of local culture before fading into obscurity.
Now, with support from Monaco and visionaries like Luca Gargano and Velier, the tradition returns in a modern form. The new Mesccia starts with Clairin Sajous, an artisanal Haitian white rum made from the rare, organic Crystalline cane. It’s double-distilled – first in Haiti, then at La Distillerie de Monaco – preserving its purity and character.
Aged in ex-Vermouth and ex-Marsala barrels, the new Mesccia pays tribute to its roots while embracing contemporary taste. Its precursor, Mother Mesccia, is already bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof) as a white rum of exceptional quality – intense, fruity, and refined – ready to be enjoyed neat or in cocktails.
