Aberlour Casg Annamh is a recent introduction to the Scottish brand’s portfolio, which was released in 2018. Casg Annamh means “rare barrel” in Gaelic and this Scotch is a tribute to Sherry whiskies. In the production of this product, three different barrels are used, including a European oak Sherry cask and two American oak casks.
The nose reveals sweet hints of red fruit, where cherry stands out. There are also aromas of raisins present, followed by nuances of cotton candy.
Particularly oily, it releases aromas of wood, red fruit and spices. Mildly dry.
Medium persistence. Red fruit (cherry as the main flavor) and spices are perceived.
Overall, the Aberlour Casg Annamh Batch 3 is a balanced and fairly intense Scotch whisky. The 48% ABV is definitely an excellent starting point. A well balanced dram, but at the same time far from what the brand standards are.
