The 18 year Aberlour is a Scottish whiskey, distilled in Speyside. Right now, this is the oldest product in the distillery's portfolio. The other bottlings are 21 years, 16 years and A'bunadh.
At the first approach, intense aromas of red fruits are perceived, immediately followed by strawberries and cherries, together with raisins and a touch of honey. A note of black pepper completes the aromatic profile.
The first aroma is spicy, a sort of mix between black pepper and paprika. The notes of red fruits continue to be present, accompanied by woody tones. There are also notes of balsamic herbs.
The persistence is medium to long. The closing notes are those of red fruits, green pepper and rich nuances of balsamic herbs.
Overall, the 18 year old Aberlour is a well balanced Scotch whiskey. While harmony isn't its strongest feature, it still delivers an intense and quite satisfying dram .
