Ardnamurchan AD/10:22 is one of the latest releases from the Highland distillery, featuring unpeated barley which has experienced a first maturation (for approx. 5 years) in ex-bourbon barrels, followed by a 1-year finish in Madeira hogshead, for a total outturn of 5781 bottles.
Fragrant and fresh, expressive. An interesting mix of yellow and unripe citrus fruit, yellow apple, lemon, unripe white peach, grapefruit. Flowery at times, with a touch of heather honey. Intense vanilla, with medium creaminess texture. A spring whisky, though with an intense alcoholic note.
Definitely more intense than the nose, with a good balance. Warmer at entrance, with some gingery components and white pepper, backed later on by vanilla, cooked apple and peaches. The fruit is more processed and less unripe than the nose.
Medium-short, clean and neat, very well-balanced. It integrates well the citrusy side with a fruit-salad quality. Some sips boasts the mineral components, normally rather quiet.
Ardnamurchan AD/10:22 Madeira Cask Release is a well crafted product, expressing variations on a solid core of fruit salad (apple, peaches) with a fresh citrus touch. Creamy vanilla and honey are added in the nose, while the palate features an increasing intensity. The finale is maybe slightly short. Enjoyable, a fresh spring drink. Maybe bottling the product at slightly lower ABV would have been better for the nose.
