Ben Nevis 10yo is one of the few official bottlings from the distillery of Fort Williams. The products from this highland distillery are currently experiencing a certain level of popularity among aficionados, with several independent bottlers which are trying to source relatively young casks. This 2022 release has evolved from the previous releases, not only in the label which features more modern than the previous one.
Rich and fascinating. The sherry dimension is slightly off and even dirty at times, velvety and deep. The ripe red fruit notes (strawberry, peach, apricot) becomes step by step more intense, sided by bloody orange zest and a brass sensation. Spices of good complexity are added to a vibrant nutty component.
The ABV is just perfect, a great compromise between creamy, velvety sensations and juicy, intense character. Again red fruit and orange, with spices and a rich, warm milk chocolate in the forefront. Nuttiness comes after.
Medium duration, clean and rich, with spices and a nutty sensation. The palate seems to resonate on some odd and funky notes, more complex than the traditional sherried aromas.
Ben Nevis 10yo is a very good product, with an incredible quality-price ratio. The sherried sensations are present, yet complex and varied, with fruity notes sided by good chocolate and nuttiness. Spices are never overwhelming, balanced and intriguing. It is for sure a pity the official bottlings of this distillery are so rare to find.
