The Benriach 2005 Oloroso Sherry Butt is a 15 year old single malt and single cask edition from the Speyside distillery. For the case of this tasting, we tried cask 2569. It is the Batch 17, and the bottle made from this cask are 580.
Rich, fruity scents, with candied fruit, plums and cherry under spirit standing out. Then ganache and a touch of petrichor.
On the palate is clean and warm. There are wood spices, licorice, red fruits, hints of leather, and once again, the petrichor. A touch of dark chocolate.
The finish is long, with licorice, leather, and butterscotch.
Overall, the Benriach 2005 Oloroso Sherry Butt is a rich, elegant and round Scotch whisky. The flavor profile is deep. Despite the high ABV and the complexity, it is very enjoyable. Incredibly clean.
