Benriach 16yo The Sixteen has been released in 2022 and is based on a revised recipe of its much-adored predecessor.
Intense and open since the beginning, despite the 43% ABV. Virgin oak creamy banana and apricot notes are boasting off immediately, bold and upfront, with biscuits. Behind those primary notes some red berries, with decent acidic component. A touch of lemon. Direct and immediate, flavorful, probably not the most complex or refined of the palette.
Very coherent with the nose, fruit is not completely ripe, with a generous acidic note and slightly unripe, still on apple and banana. Some oakiness and a minor spicy component. Once again simple and neat, friendly yet not the most evocative or complex.
Medium length, played between the fresh acidic tone and the fruity/vanilla/honey component.
Benriach 16yo The Sixteen is a reliable product, fresh and with intense flavors as main positive characteristics. The virgin oak maturation plays an important role in providing an upfront yellow fruit (apple, banana) with vanilla and creamy texture, while the other casks are much shier, adding very little to a slightly mono-dimensional palette. A blue chip, which can be sipped any moment.
