TASTING NOTES - BUNNAHABHAIN 12YO HEPBURN'S CHOICE 2008

Nose

Creamy and buttery sensations are enveloping rich and ripe voluptuous yellow fruit (melon, apples, golden prunes), with a touch of honey and a waxy sensation. Hints of candle and a sort of distant smoke, not forgetting a touch of salt. Expressive and varied.

Palate

Gingery and mineral, almost salty. The fruit is slightly more sour and acidic compared to the nose, fresher, with candied lemon and tangerine, grapefruit juice. Lot of salt, even in the second part of the palatal experience.

Finish

When the mineral, coastal part of the palate fades out, a slightly bitter sensations, quite pleasant, herbal, takes over, a sort of licorice balsamic character. Nice.

Bunnahabhain 12yo Hepburn's Choice 2008 is overall a very good product, an interesting representation of the coastal side of the distillery, with tons of salt, but also a very intriguing nose, with fruit, wax and a sort of smoke. Complex and rich, maybe the salt is slightly too intense on the tongue to reach great heights.
