Chichibu Ichiro's Malt On The Way 2024 is the most recent release of the series from the distillery opened in 2008 in the Saitama Prefecture. It is mentioned to showcase the unique floor malting process and an aging method that imparts unparalleled depth and character to the whisky. Outturn has been of 12'000 bottles.
Very warm and velvety from the very beginning. It is very fruity, with nice enjoyable notes which are however difficult to differentiate, as they are very well integrated: red and dark berries are mixed with very ripe orchard fruit, though at moments some more tropical hints of mango and papaya are given off. The spicy side is sweet and mellow, pleasant. Intensity is at a premium, with a second phase of toasted barley. Excellent.
Creaminess is wonderful, with hints of malted biscuits and again a rich fruity content, more on orchard than the nose. Very well integrated, complex and intense with a very silent alcohol. The sweetness of malted barley is present and evocative.
Quite long and very classy, elegant.
Chichibu Ichiro's Malt On The Way 2024 is a truly excellent product, with rich malted barley component across nose and palate, which also lingers on the mouth in the finish. The fruity side is also very complex and rewarding, with dark, red and ripe orchard nuances, in addition to rare tropical hints. A very nice addition from a very successful distillery.
