Connemara Peated Original is a peaty Irish whiskey. It all comes from the inspiration that saw dried barley making peat in the eighteenth century. Hence the characteristic peaty aroma that distinguishes this whiskey and the other bottlings present in the brand's portfolio.
On the nose, the first impact is fruity, with notes of peat that quickly become perceptible. Then it's the turn of malt and a hint of walnut. Lastly, iodine notes are revealed, barely hinted at.
Sweet and salty, with aromas of burnt wood and a touch of vanilla. Then wood spices, enriched by a sweet peaty note. Lastly, apple and sugary hints reach the palate.
Persistence is medium. Peaty notes, vanilla and freshly cut grass.
Overall, Connemara Peated Original is a whiskey that releases a good intensity of aromatics. It turns out harmonious and well balanced. However, it lacks complexity, but for that there are other more performing products in the brand's portfolio, such as the 12 year old and the cask strength version.
