The Francois Voyer VSOP is a Cognac made exclusively with Ugni Blanc grapes from the Grande Champagne. The aging process happen in casks made with French wood, coming from the Limousin region. This VSOP is aged for at least 4 years. The Chauchet-Voyer family has been distilling since the 1870s.
It delivers homemade blackcurrant jam, all kind of marmalades, cooked berry fruit, dried apricot, and also some new leather. There is also a touch of sandalwood. Interesting.
Good arrival, decent mouthfeel, more of the same as the nose: more apricot, orange peel, caramel, rather good earthy side to it, leather, and tobacco. Nice weight, maybe getting a touch oaky in the very end.
Shortish. Dried fruit, black tea, and some oak bitterness.
Overall, the Francois Voyer VSOP is a nice cognac, one of the best in the VSOP range. The finish is what’s stopping a higher rating.
