Glen Moray 18yo is a core range release from the Heritage Collection by the distillery west of Elgin, on the banks of Lossie river, founded in 1897 by Robert Thorne.
Fragrant and fruity. The first fill bourbon casks are pretty flavorful in terms of aromas, and the latter are rather well integrated. The fruity aromas are centered on banana, yellow apples, unripe apricots, sweet Amalfi lemon, pineapple, with the addition of a flowery component of orange blossom. There is a creamy component, maybe light, lemony custard. A minimal mineral, chalky distant dimension, reminding some whiskies from the Highlands. Is there a hidden, minor smoke?
Definitely more mineral here, almost salty; this aspect is however well balanced by a creamy texture and a custard mellow sensation, again on vanilla and yellow fruit (apricots, peaches, grapefruit, baked apples), with different levels of ripeness.
Medium-short, clean, with some mineral hints and a refreshing overall sensation.
Glen Moray 18yo is a good release, incorporating some minerality (mainly on the palate) with interesting yellow fruit sensations. Adding on top, a good level of creaminess. The overall impressions are of a nicely crafted product, with a clean, rather elegant profile quite easy to enjoy.
