Glenrothes 18 yo is a single malt from Speyside, released as part of the Soleo Collection; this series is named after the main grape drying process for sherry production in Jerez, Spain. The distillate has been aged in ex-sherry barrels, with a high percentage of the product that has rested in first fill, therefore deeply marking, oak barrels.
The initial aromas are sherried, but enriched with lemon zest and mineral scents. Fruity notes of pear and a component of aromatic herbs follow. It is then perceptible an important citrus scent, with a sulfurous impression at the end of the olfactory experience.
It immediately turns out to be quite structured. It releases spicy notes, among which you can perceive pepper and woody spices. Then citrus, where lemon zest stands out.
Medium long. Fruity notes of honey and citrus fruits. Spices in second place.
Glenrothes 18 yo is ultimately a quite structured product, with an excellent balance. Despite the use of theoretically very active barrels, the final result is harmonious and well-integrated.
