Highland Park Velier Single Cask No. 2 is a release of 648 bottles from Puncheon n. 1640 for the Italian importer, bottled in 2018. Velier's special bottlings are packed in jute bags.
Intense and deep, with sophisticated, rich sherried aromas; the more traditional red berries are paired in intensity by blackberries, salted butter, chestnuts, chestnut honey. The peat is quite light and nuanced, earthy and mineral at the same time. Alcohol is incredibly silent at this ABV. Excellent.
Very nice and rich, open and tasty, again fruity with character, moving between the lines of red and black fruit jam. The honey hints are preserved, while the distant peat evolves into a salty ham fatty suggestion. The oak spices are more present than on the nose. Alcohol is again very well managed.
Long lasting, again fruity but not in a flat way, enriched by the buttery texture.
Highland Park Velier Single Cask No. 2 is an extremely tasty, sophisticated array of aromas release. The malt from this Orkney distillery seems to be capable of managing high ABVs in a fantastic way, pushing through quality and very long lasting notes without alcoholic punch. The finale is specially long. A great opportunity to sip the distillery at the best.
