Ichiro's Malt Double Distilleries 2021 is the second blended malt released as part of a joined project from Chichibu and Mars. These two famous Japanese distilleries started their cooperation in 2015. The two blended malts resulting from this cooperation have been launched at the same time by Kasuto Hombo and Ichiro Akuto. In this second case the spirit has been aged in the Chichibu warehouse.
Slightly closed at the beginning, then some sherried notes are given off in a very shy way: some wet sultanas, dried out figs, strawberry jam (dried out in the sun). Vanilla and toffee.
This is truly more expressive, with a warm mouthfeel right at the entrance, with sweet spices and white pepper. Bloody orange, very ripe peaches, with a very well managed sweetness and a nice ABV, high enough to push sensations and aromas.
Medium long, still on the bloody orange with spices, well balanced.
Ichiro's Malt Double Distilleries 2021 is a rather closed nose product, which on the contrary opens up quite a bit on the palate, adding spice and blood orange for a warm, long lasting mouthfeel. The ABV seems well chosen , especially to push the palatal experience, which provide a rather long finish. As said, something missing on the slim nose.
