Indri Trini The Three Wood is a 2022 release from a village distillery running on renewable energy in the foothills of the Himalayas. Surrinder Kumar is the master blender who previously worked at Amrut. This single malt is distilled from organically grown six-row Indian barley indigenous to Rajasthan. Indri in Sanskrit refers to the five sense: smell, taste, touch, sight, sound.
The sherry oak has contributed with red currant, quite acidic, and some red generic berries. The yellow fruit is also not truly mature, fresh apples, grapefruit. Some light exotic fruit notes (papaya?), yet not truly overripe as in other tropical whiskies. The texture is on the other hand much more typical of these products, quite pleasant. Baking spices.
Spices are greener than on the nose. Two fruity dimensions are fighting, interesting but not yet fully integrated: a fresh citrus one and a more exotic. Alcohol is not completely silent.
Medium, still rather complex.
Indri Trini The Three Wood is a very interesting attempt. There are some encouraging notes of tropical fruit and backing spices, and signs of braveness in the choice of multiple woods aging, even choosing complex essences (ex-wine, PX) which are difficult to fully integrated in a short period of time. New releases from the distillery should be tracked down quite carefully, as talent is there. A true pity the not completely silent alcoholic note.
