Released in 2016 as the first experiment of this serie, the Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Red Rye Finish is a no age statement whisky, which is finished for six months in barrels that previously held Rye whiskey. The blend has been created using a blend of grain and malt whiskeys, as usual for the brand.
there are warm malt and red fruit (strawberry and black cherry) scents, that blends together to a spicy vein, close to the white pepper. There is also a vanilla smell, that get developed after a while. The whisky results easy but nice. To complete the aromatic palette, notes of baked apple and cinnamon get developed.
the first sip is a light one, with a contained intensity. The spices are still present, but now they are closer to the black pepper and paprika. There are some suave notes of yellow fruit as well (apple). Last, a strong malt aroma reaches the palate.
