Kamiki Intense Wood is a whisky created by blending malt whiskeys not only from Japan, but also from selected countries around the world. While this is similar to the original blend by the same brand, this release is extensively aged in barrels made of Japanese cedar, which is rather unique in the whisky scenario.
Very unique notes of wood are quite evident right at the entrance, sided by intense Olor tobacco aromas. The palette is completed by a complex mix of semi-sweet spices, including vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg. Just a hint of black currant.
The initial phase is less woody than the nose and spicer, with a warming mix of nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and cardamom. Tobacco is also present and the woody notes are again taking over in the last part of the palate. Alcohol is present, yet well integrated.
Medium duration, again woody but not astringent, again with spices and a slightly honeyed character
Kamiki Intense Wood is overall an unusual product, which is boasting very specific, characteristic woody notes which are not easy to find in other products; the fruition is however not limited to this main aroma, which is paired by a varied mix of spices and some extra tobacco notes. Alcohol seems to be well centered and integrated, providing a fulfilling experience.
