Kilkerran 8yo Cask Strength Batch 4 is the limited edition release of Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown. This distillery has its own stills, while the property uses the malting floor and the Springbank bottling facility. The previous releases of this bottling propose aging in different types of barrels.
Very characteristic of a sherried profile, with raisins in quantity, very ripe strawberry, date. At times it appears darker, with blackberries and black currants. The vinous part is under control, but present. Alcohol present but not intrusive, only pushes the aromas. A leathery character.
Velvety despite the alcohol intensity. Spicy at the entrance, sometimes peppery. It then opens into ripe red fruit, always strawberry and blackberry, almost mixed berries. Great balance between sweetness and dryness, the result is very appreciable, encroaching on the licorice root. A hint of sapidity. Almost absent peat, perhaps a distant "dirty" side.
Medium, with echoes of fruit and a sweetness well balanced by the spiciness.
Kilkerran 8yo Cask Strength Batch 4 is overall a whisky with a very balanced and enjoyable sherried profile; the exaggerations of very marked products are absent, perhaps thanks to not too active barrels or a wise vatting. The result is very drinkable in spite of an aromatic palette of quality and good intensity, also driven by an alcohol that is not negligible, but very silent. The "dirty" and savory notes are quite consistent with the character of the distillery.
