Kyro Peat Smoke is a core range release from the first Finnish distillery based on 100% malted Finnish wholegrain rye that is smoked using Finnish freshwater peat. The wholegrain rye malt spends 24 hours being peat smoked in a barn before distillation. Its first release has been in 2023.
A light green nose. It features a very nicely balanced herbal, vegetal smokiness with some sweetness and a light touch of ashes. Gentle and well crafted. In the second part some gentle sweetness of apples and a minor note of caramel is added. Surprising.
Here the rye character is more evident, however the punch which is very evident in the Oloroso release is quenched and more gentle, and fits much better. Candied lemons, some heather honey and again ashes are becoming evident. Very balanced and coherent with the nose.
Short and gentle, correct for the entire profile, with an herbal honey touch.
Kyro Peat Smoke is a very surprising product; you may think of a true peat bomb, enhanced by the spiciness of the rye, yet this is not the release which has been crafted by the Finnish distillery. The Finnish freshwater peat gifts the rye with a gentle, kind touch of herbs and honey, with a soft sensation of ash, refreshed by the rye balsamic hints. A nice surprise.
