Lagg Palo Cortado Finish is a 2025 release from the distillery of the south of the Isle of Arran. This malt is peated to 50 ppm and has been released in small batches.
The peat of this release is quite intense, acrid and pungent, mineral and coastal at moments. The quite high ABV is not fully integrated. Very few additional aromas are given the opportunity to shine here, maybe the sherry component adds some distant dark, dusty chocolate.
Once again the combination of high ABV and intense peat make the impact very aggressive on the palate, vivid for sure, maybe even too much, The red fruit component, here more defined than o the nose, is still not enough to balance the sip.
Medium-long, maybe not the most pleasant due to the young peat expression
Lagg Palo Cortado Finish is a wild release, very intensely peated, a whiskey for the lovers of extreme coastal and marine peated expressions, however maybe slightly mono-dimensional.
