Laphroaig 10yo Cask Strength Batch 16 is the 2022 release of the very successful Cask Strength collection of the famous Islay distillery, which started in 2009.
Despite the high ABV, the nose starts with nice and rather gentle herbal notes, followed by iodine and a medicinal, smoky peat. The second impressions are of fresh sea breeze and sweet lemon, with a vanilla which is increasing with time, added to sugar icing and a material, concrete and plaster sensation.
Saltier, with sea weeds, shells, light and fresh white/yellow fruit (lychee, again sweet lemon, grapefruit). The spicy dimension is of green and black pepper, added on top of BBQ fish.
Medium-long, lemony and ashy, of nice quality.
Laphroaig 10yo Cask Strength Batch 16 is another very well-crafted release of this successful line, rich and varied in terms of aromatic palette and respectful of the distillery DNA. As in other releases, the ABV is particularly well integrated and pushes tastes and intensity to very nice levels.
