Laphroaig 10yo Sherry Oak is a 2021 release of distillery on the south coast of Islay. This 10 year old single malt Scotch whisky which has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks for over 12 months.
After an initial slightly alcoholic note a dry nuttiness comes out of an oaky texture. Complex aromatic herbs, such as juniper and licorice are also given off. Lot of vanilla and maple syrup.
Interesting and balanced, yet warm and expressive at entrance. Vanilla / maple syrup combo is of course again immediately evident, but on top of this first aroma a juicier roasted orange/lemon component with mixed sweet spices is delivered, with a fresh menthol and balsamic herbs dimension. Alcohol is here much better integrated.
Medium, warm and with a pleasant mix of sweet spices & aromatic herbs on top of orange peel on barbecue.
Laphroaig 10yo Sherry Oak is a pleasant experience, rich in terms of aromatic palette and expressive in terms of aromas intensity; the balsamic aromatic herbs are capable of making the profile active and fresh, while the sweet spices and the orange touch and balancing the slightly bitter side quite well.
