The Ledaig 18 Year Old is a Scotch whisky made at the Tobermory distillery, which is located on the Hebridean island of Mull, Scotland, in Tobermory. The distillery was founded back in 1798. The distillery produces bottles two brands of whisky: Tobermory and Ledaig, the first unpeated. This Ledaig 18 years old (40 ppm) is aged in ex-bourbon casks and then is finished in ex-sherry casks.
Once poured into the glass, it immediately releases rich scents of red fruit, together with a smoky touch and hints of peat. There are also cereals and dates. Winey. After a few moments, the flavor profile is enriched with vanilla, black pepper, and some iodine notes. Inviting.
To the palate, rich sherry notes are outlined first, followed by oak, black pepper, smoky notes, and iodine—a touch of peat. The smoke is now more pronounced compared to what is perceived to the nose.
Medium-long finish, with a rich smoky aroma, along with some vegetal hints.
Overall, the Ledaig 18 Year Old is a well-balanced Scotch whisky, boasting a structured and deep flavor profile. Complexity is good, and the harmony is great. It is easy to enjoy, but it catches your attention while you sip it. Interesting and harmonious. Way better than the 10 years old version.
