The Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak is aged exclusively in sherry oak from Jerez. Macallan got its reputation for this type of maturation, that brought the big brother of this 12 years old (the 18 years old), to be considered one of the best whiskies back in time.
Sherry, vanilla and red fruits, with the cherry being the protagonist. Then raisins and wood, enriched by nuances of cocoa. Leaving it a while in the glass, it exhibits also a mix of hazelnut and walnut.
Warm and round. It releases notes of wood, cocoa, and red fruits; once again the cherry is in forefront. In the background, hints of vanilla.
Medium persistence. There are cocoa and hazelnut.
Overall, the Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak delivers an intense, warm, and enveloping dream. It is balanced and fairly complex considering that it is “only” a 12 years old Scotch. That said, this is a classic.
