Nikka from the Barrel Extra Marriage celebrates the 40th anniversary of the legendary Nikka From the Barrel, launched in 1985 in its now iconic square bottle. Benefiting from a marriage period twice as long as that of the original edition, this vintage is the result of a blend of Yoichi and Miyagikyo single malts, combined with grain whiskies, made primarily from corn. The latter were distilled in Coffey stills, imported from Scotland in 1963 to equip the Nishinomiya site, before being installed in Miyagikyo in 1999.
Rich, deep. Initially revealing notes of beeswax, golden plums and nutmeg, the aromatic palette is gradually enveloped in fresh ginger, malty and earthy scents.
Lively, warm and again deep. Medicinal (balm), very lightly smoky and lemony (zest), the taste palette also takes on the honeyed character of the nose. The core is based on cereals (corn, malted barley) and fruit (apples, plums), it gradually adds a touch of mineral salts.
Medium duration, both energetic and silky.
Nikka from the Barrel Extra Marriage is definitely richer than the original recipe, a very nice product which is adding a perfect ABV to a rich and varied aromas palette.
