Nikka Pure Malt Black is a blended Japanese whiskey. Particularly known and widespread, the Nikka brand includes several brands, such as Yoichi, Miyagikyo, Taketsuru, as well as all Nikka products. The wording “Pure Malt” refers, in Japan, to the type of blended whiskey. The “Pure Malt” are blends made with whiskey from different distilleries, however controlled by a single producer. In this case, Pure Malt Black uses whiskey distilled from Yoichi and Miyagikyo. The is sold in 50cl bottles.
A well balanced mix of tofee, wood and cocoa is perceptible. There are also hints of smoke present, which are outlined in the background.
Soft and round. It releases intense notes of caramel and cocoa, which are immediately perceptible, followed by vegetal nuances, honey and a hint of hazelnut. Finally, spices emerge in the end.
Of medium persistence. It releases notes of cocoa and wood.
Overall, the Nikka Pure Malt Black is a well balanced Japanese whiskey, capable of giving rise to a round and enveloping dram. Excellent example of how a Japanese NAS, while not presenting a significant age, is still able to be satisfying.
