The Ragnaud Sabourin VSOP is made using grapes from the premier Grande Champagne designation. It is a 100% ugni blanc and mostly new wood. No 4 might indicate its age.
Bright, very fresh apples, pears, peaches, apricots, flowers, many floral notes, some raisins, toffee, vanilla, little wax. It noses like a good entry-level malt.
Good arrival, good weight. There is a plethora of dried fruit, raisins, prunes, apricots, getting sweeter, toffee, honey, and crushed banana. It is impressive how it still retains freshness. Then marzipan and almond cake.
Medium. More marzipan, a touch of burnt match, little drying, black teas, tannins, some green bitterness.
Overall, the Ragnaud Sabourin No 4 VS goes beyond expectations, and it is among the best VS around. The palate is especially impressive.
