The Richard Delisle XO Grande Champagne is one of the six expressions of cognac currently produced by the brand. In terms of prestige, this edition is second only to the “Millesime”. There is also another bottling made, the Cognac Club Cigar, which however is a limited edition.
The history of this brand dates back to 1850. The distillery began with 3 copper stills. For five generations, the distillery has been handed down from generation to generation, and today it has 15 copper stills. The vineyard has also grown over time, reaching approximately 72 hectares. It is located in three cities: Bourg-Charents of Petite Champagne, Julienne and Saint Brice of Fine Bois. It is 100% Ugni-blanc.
It delivers hints of wood, vanilla, and a touch of black pepper. The fruity component takes a few moments to get released.
The wood and a mix of wood spices and black pepper are confirmed, together with cinnamon and cloves. There are also fruity hints, barely perceptible. Lastly, notes of orange jam.
Persistence is medium. On the finish, a mix of black pepper and cloves emerges, with some hints of wood.
Overall, the Richard Delisle XO Grande Champagne is equipped with a flavor profile that delivers a nice aromatic intensity. However, the bouquet is not much wide, and the overall harmony is not among the best ones.
