The Kurayoshi Sherry Cask is the Sherry bottling of this brand, which is produced by Matsui Shuzou, a company that commercializes also other spirits, including sake and shochu. Even if we talk about Japanese whiskey, in reality, at the base of this blend, there are whiskeys distilled in Scotland, which are then sent to Japan, where the blending process and bottling takes place. It is therefore more correct to speak of a non-Japanese product, but of a Scottish product blended in Japan.
At first, it is rather “shy” and closed. A particularly pronounced vein of malt and grains is perceived when compared to the remaining flavor profile, which consists of apples and sugar. Fresh.
The sensation of freshness is also present on the palate, where the notes of malt and apples, also perceived on the nose, return. However, shades of white pepper and vanilla are also added, as well as hints of wood. The flavor intensity, however, is somewhat contained, as is the “depth” of the aromas.
Medium-short persistence. Marzipan, orange peel and wood are perceived.
Overall, The Kurayoshi Sherry Cask is endowed with a flavor profile that is contained to the nose, and which is also not very incisive to the palate. Even though the perceived number of flavors is decent, the intensity and structure are rather contained.
