The Lakes Infinity is part of the Whiskymaker’s Reserve series of the UK distillery. Master Distiller Dhavall Gandhi has used several different casks to create this Single Malt, with the clear intent of providing depth and complexity to the bottling, in order to bear a difficult name. The overall outturn has been of 9700 bottles.
The target of complexity is achieved with no doubts; starts on deep sherried notes of dried figs and plums, but reaches a different perspective thanks to the Oloroso nuts and an important dose of spices, Indian and Middle East ones. Some bloody orange helps balancing the intensity of the tastes with a fresher component. Caleidoscopic and intense, nice.
Chewy and very rich. Maybe this aspect is more heavily conditioned by the winey character, thus the high ABV and the intense spices are fatiguing a little the palatal experience. However the palette is rich and fulfilling, with caramel, sultanas, deep chocolate and coffee.
More on wood, still dominated by the sherry notes, again something darker.
The Lakes Infinity is an experience which stands behind the name given to the bottling by Master Distiller; it is complex and difficult to dissect, yet rich and quite fulfilling when carefully enjoyed with time. The ABV is high, well integrated, for a rich palette and an intense, long-lasting finish on the mouth.
