Torabhaig Sound of Sleat is a 2025 release from the distillery on the Isle of Skye. This is the fourth release overall from the distillery. Sound of Sleat is a narrow strip of sea dividing Skye from mainland, named "Linne Shlèite" in Gaelic. Alongside Concerto barley, Laureate malt is also used. The barley is peated to approximately 78 ppm.
The first impressions are of light vanilla and custard, smoked creme brulee, popcorn with butter. The peat is more complex than in other releases, with herbal, pipe tobacco sensations, with a touch of iodine.
Here the sweet bonfire smokiness is central, with an extra light and zesty oak spice. Subtly waxy with hints of honey, pear and vanilla custard balancing sea salt and seaweed.
Medium, light and relatively fresh, with the return of salt and pepper mix.
Torabhaig Sound of Sleat is a very balanced, rich release, which is providing an extra dimension to the Torabhaig smokiness, adding custard, vanilla, honeyed pears and some interesting mix of salt and pepper spices. Probably the best of the Legacy series.
