Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a triple distilled release from Woodford distillery, featuring a mashbill composed of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley. It is matured for approx. 6 years in classic virgin American oak barrels, then an innovative approach (deeply toasted before a light charring) is used to prepare oak barrels for the second aging.
Sophisticated, yet intense. Woody notes are the first to impress, fragrant, with a generous dose of wood spices. A great ripe cherry on the fruity side. Balsamic, herbal notes are also evident and of great balance. Good quality vanilla. The overall sensation is of a well-integrated set of aromas.
Velvety, yet juicy. The texture is the first to strike, smooth and rich. Alcohol is very well managed. Again a major cherry sweetness and a minor bitter ending component, on the balsamic side. Very pleasant, easy to enjoy.
Bitter, yet very pleasant balsamic herbs and sweet cotton candy with cherries notes are battling to take the lead, for a nice finish, of medium duration.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a very balanced, smooth texture, truly enjoyable spirit. Aromas may not be extremely original for this type of product (wood, wood spices, balsamic herbs and ripe cherries), but the overall sensation is of a well integrated palette, with the right ABV to be very simple to drink up a bottle in very short time.
