Yamazaki Golden Promise is a 2024 release part of the Tsukuriwake Selection, which explores the full potential of single malt whisky using a fusion of artisanship and experimentation informed by diverse whisky making techniques. Through the use of barley varieties rarely seen in Japanese whisky, aging techniques, unique wooden casks and peat and peated malts, Yamazaki's blenders have created four different expressions of Yamazaki and Hakushu single malts. Golden Promise is composed of Golden Promise barley, a variety first grown in Scotland in the 1960s, which is revered for its flavor and malting characteristics.
There is a sweet, gentle and persistent toast on top of the main biscuit and golden plums sensation, paired with custard and a balanced sensation of toffee. It is intense and balanced, warm, honeyed. Very nice.
Rich and classy, rather classical, yet with a sort of perfect summary of all the ex-bourbon whisky: quality vanilla, malted barley, yellow orange, again golden plums and cream. Buttery and mellow.

Yamazaki Golden Promise is a very nice product, which summarizes very well many of the qualities of an ex-bourbon quality whisky. The profile is centered on classy aromas such as vanialla, yellow fruit and custard with malted barley and biscuits, classical, yet perfectly executed.
