For the past three centuries the name Macallan has been synonymous with excellence in whiskey. This new version of the classic 18 year old has been aged in a combination of three different barrels: European sherry, American sherry and finally bourbon barrels. As with any whiskey belonging to the most prestigious range, Macallan uses the special variety of Minstrel barley, grown on their historic estate on the banks of the River Spey.
Sweet sugary hints soon give way to timid notes of ripe yellow fruit. Followed by nuances of vanilla and spices. Finally, a touch of menthol is released.
Intense notes of ripe fruit enrich the sweet base. Notes of white pepper, cocoa and a hint of citrus are perceptible (lemon peel stands out). The aromatic profile is completed with a rich honey aroma. Velvety on the palate.
The persistence is long. On the finish there are also hints of lemon peel and custard. Sweet.
Overall, the Macallan Triple Cask 18 years old is a Scottish whiskey with a very long persistence.The aromatic profile is broad and rich and the balance is excellent. One of Macallan's best releases of recent years. This whiskey was awarded as the 5th best whiskey of 2019 .
