Fujikai 10 Year Old is a Japanese whiskey, born from the collaboration between Monde Shuzo and Whiskies du Monde. The name of the brand is due to the fact that the distillery is at the foot of the famous and symbolic Mount Fuji. Production of this dram is limited to 8,808 bottles. The whiskey is aged in ex-bourbon barrels.
Although it has matured for 10 years, it is particularly fresh on the nose, with hints of wood and solvent, joined by brackish nuances. Lastly, spices (black pepper) and malt.
It reveals notes of green apple and brine, flanked by wood and a slightly hinted fruity nuance.
Short persistence. Notes of cereals, hay and brine are outlined. Spices are also perceptible, mainly black pepper.
Overall, the Fujikai 10 Year is a poorly structured and pungent whiskey. Despite 10 years of aging, it does not seem to have reached an adequate maturity and lacks in complexity and intensity. On the Japanese scene, there are far more performing products available.
