Kirin Fuji Sanroku comes from the Fuji Gotemba distillery, opened in 1973 in the city of Gotemba, near Mount Fuji; the name Fuji Sanroku means in fact "at the foot of Mount Fuji". This expression, launched in 2016, is a blended whisky initially dedicated only to the Japanese market, using a mix of wheat whiskies and single malts, some of which slightly peated, bottled at 50% vol. and not chill filtered. Until 2020 it was not exported, then a limited number of bottles was made available for export.
deeply influenced by the barrel, with juicy, intense and ripe red fruit (red apple, plum and raisins), also developing a nice sweetness of caramel.
the high ABV results quite well integrated and pushes the warm and enveloping sherried sensations. The sugary side is relevant. The raisins are more marked than the nose and reach the intensity of plum. Red apple is confirmed. Sweet and persuasive spices. Brown sugar.
medium-long, again developing juicy red fruit and sweet spices of wood
Kirin Fuji Sanroku is overall a sherried spirit, in which the woods have deeply marked the distillate giving an intense character. The main limitation of the product is the lack of more complex dimensions, which could make the drink slightly static. Alcohol is however very well integrated.
