The Glendalough Distillery has announced the launch of their new 7-year-old Mizunara Cask Finish whiskey. For those who are not familiar with Mizunara, it is a very rare type of wood, sourced from the island of Hokkaido, Japan.
This new 7 year old is a younger version of the 13 year old Glendalough released a few years ago, which ended up in sixth place in CigarsLover Magazine 2019 awards, with a 91 point score.
The brand talks about this new single malt as “vivid, but delicate with seamless depth. It is vibrant, fruity, and floral on the nose, enjoying a luxuriously smooth mouthfeel with notes of dark chocolate orange, sandalwood and cinnamon synonymous with Mizunara whiskeys. This unique whiskey benefits from an exceptionally long finish of toasted oak and oriental spices, with the dark chocolate lingering even longer.”
The new Glendalough 7 year old Mizunara Finish is bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof) with a price of € 85. A red thread on the bottle is placed to represent the Japanese red thread of fate that connects two souls, which links Glendalough’s Wicklow, Ireland and Hokkaido, Japan.
